Karen Kissel Wegela, PhD, has been studying, practising and teaching the integration of Buddhist teachings and psychotherapy for almost forty years. She is a professor at Boulder, Colorado's Naropa University in the department of Contemplative Psychotherapy and Buddhist Psychology and was its director for fifteen years. She has presented at numerous workshops and conferences both nationally and internationally and is the author of three books: How to Be a Help instead of a Nuisance (republished as What Really Helps) (Shambhala), The Courage to Be Present: Buddhism, Psychotherapy and the Awakening of Natural Wisdom (Shambhala), and her most recent book, Contemplative Psychotherapy Essentials: Enriching Your Practice with Buddhist Psychology (W.W. Norton). She is in private practice as a psychologist.
