PhD is a licensed clinical psychologist, Associate Professor in the Psychology Department of The City College of New York, and the Past-President of the New York State Psychological Association’s Division on Addictions. She earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from the Graduate Center at The City University of New York and has been a faculty member of CCNY’s Psychology Department since 2014. She has published and presented internationally on the co-occurrence and treatment of traumatic stress and substance misuse. Her current research focuses on the substantial overlap between substance use and mental health problems, particularly the development of more holistic, evidence-based models of health care for people who use drugs. Dr. López-Castro conducts community-engaged research with the United States’s first overdose prevention center, located in New York City. Dr. López-Castro is currently funded by the US’s National Institute on Drug Abuse to expand syringe services programs to include evidence-based mental health care.
